Scientific Sessions/Tracks

Pathology is a field of study which includes diagnosis and research and a casual study of a disease if it is provoked due to pathogens or any other physiologic condition of vertebrates, invertebrates, plants etc. The word pathology originated from Greek where pathos means ‘suffering’ and logia means ‘the study of’. Pathology is split into three wide sub-types namely anatomical pathology, clinical pathology, and molecular pathology.

Oncology is the study of cancer. An oncologist is a doctor who treats cancer and provides medical care for a person diagnosed with cancer. Medical oncology is a core member of the MDT and offers cancer patients a comprehensive and systemic approach to treatment and care while ensuring evidence-based, safe, and cost-effective use of cancer drugs and preserving the quality of life of cancer patients through the entire 'cancer journey'.

Session on: Surgical Pathology

Surgical Pathology is an examination of a tissue specimen is obtained by biopsy and surgical resections to render the diagnostic results. These techniques are usually performed by both macroscopic and microscopic analysis of the given specimen by a surgeon or a non-surgeon. Tissue specimens can be obtained from different body parts. Surgical Pathology may involve in examining and evaluating the molecular property of tissue through laboratory tests such as immunohistochemistry.

Tracks:

  • Autopsy Pathology
  • Molecular Pathology
  • Cytopathology

Session on: Histopathology / Histology

Histopathology is a study of a small piece of tissue at a microscopic level to diagnose and manifest the cause of the disease or a physiologic condition of a species. A specimen obtained by biopsy will be processed and placed on a glass slide for examining the cause of the disorder. Histopathology is also used as a tool to check the adaptability of a xenograft after transplantation. Histopathology is one of the mainstream in the Surgical Pathology field.

Session on: Oncology

Oncology is a medical specialty that focuses on the detection and treatment of cancer. An "oncologist" is a specialist in the field. Greater preventive measures to decrease exposure to risk factors (e.g., cigarette smoking and alcohol consumption), enhanced screening of multiple cancers (allowing for earlier discovery), and breakthroughs in therapy have all contributed to an increase in cancer survival. Multidisciplinary cancer conferences, where medical oncologists, surgical oncologists, and others meet to find the simplest possible management for an individual patient while taking into account the patient's physical, social, psychological, emotional, and financial status, are frequently used to manage cancers.

Session on: Organ-Specific Pathology

Organ-Specific Pathology is an immune response shown by different organs for specific antigens. It concerns with diagnosis of diseases or disorders for different organs or organ systems. Organ-Specific immune responses can be recorded to understand the mechanism of the disease. For example, pathology of a cancerous condition can be recorded differently based on the organ type.

Session on: Chemical Pathology / Clinical Pathology

Chemical Pathology deals with investigation of various body fluids such as saliva, blood, serum, cerebrospinal fluid, semen, urine etc. to diagnose the disease and its causes by bio-chemical process. It is otherwise known as clinical chemistry. An overlay between Clinical Pathology and Anatomic Pathology is increasing the scope for proteomics and molecular diagnosis. Clinical Pathology is very much necessary to maintain the high quality of diagnosis as 85% of the patients of hospitals are required to take a diagnostic test.

Hematopathology is concerned with the study of diseases related to blood and its production i.e., hematopoiesis. It is also related with the study of tissues and organs such as bone marrow, thymus and spleen. It also involves in the study of malignant and non-malignant disorders related to blood and its cellular components such as erythrocytes, lymphocytes, platelets etc. This study also deals with diagnosing and differentiation of Myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPN’s) which are caused due to hematopoietic myeloid progenitor cells in the bone marrow.

Psychologists explore brain functioning, emotion, interaction to asses and treat the patient. Anxiety disorders. Bipolar disorders. Depressive disorders.

Psychopathology mainly deals with studying an abnormal functioning of the mind and to diagnose or predict the reasons for the cause of the same until it no longer remains unsolved. According to recent statistics, about 15% of the population in the United States of America show the signs of mental disorders. In view of this fact, it should be treated an abnormal case of the modern society.

The field of Genetic Pathology basically involves in diagnosing a disease by testing the genetic material i.e., RNA or DNA of the patient. It has become a cutting-edge field in the arena of pathology as there are increasing genetic disorders such as cancer, diabetes and heart diseases. It is a growing field and only 17 genetic pathologists are concerned with this specialty in Australia according to RCPA.

Session on: Pathophysiology / Physiopathology

When any abnormal or undesired states of body are observed during the disease condition, it is termed to be as Pathophysiology. This disorder or disease may be either caused by infectious agents, trauma or a syndrome. Pathophysiology addresses the pathological process, etiology, and development of a disease. It studies diseases caused by both infectious diseases such as insect-borne and non-infectious diseases such as addiction, obesity etc.

Pathology is one of the most lucrative and in-demand subfields of forensics. Forensic pathologists combine the skills of doctors and investigators, working long hours to investigate cases and evaluate whether or not criminal charges should be filed. By, analyzing a corpse, forensic pathologists can determine the cause of death. It is crucial in criminal investigations, which entails the testing of DNA, bones, and blood samples, among other things.
